The Center for Undergraduate Research Experiences (CURE), based in the Office of Research and Graduate Education, leads, supports and facilitates student-faculty research collaborations throughout the Schools and Colleges of �鶹��ý. The Center�鶹��ý�s work is building upon forty years of undergraduate research in Dyson College as a high-impact educational practice that advances student success.

The Amelia A. Gould Undergraduate Research Assistantship in the Creative Arts

The Center for Undergraduate Research Experiences (CURE) is soliciting proposals from faculty for undergraduate research assistants to support faculty projects in the Creative Arts. This funding opportunity will support faculty-mentored experiential learning for students who will work on immersive research-based creative arts projects as research assistants.

Background and Goals

Faculty members in the creative arts are all working professionals in their fields who are publishing, performing, and exhibiting their work throughout the year. Students working on faculty projects will learn how professionals pursue their work and how both faculty and students comprise a creative campus community.

This program is designed:

to offer students a mentoring intensive experience at a professional studio, maker space, or working production and spend an extended period of time immersed in a creative project;
to afford students insight into the culture of their chosen fields, allow them to develop sustained working habits and stamina, and learn new skills and methods;
to involve more creative arts students in faculty-mentored research and creative inquiry;
to provide faculty members with research support and enhance opportunities for student-faculty collaboration on academic projects in the creative arts.

Application and Timeline for Faculty-Mentored Creative Arts Research

Faculty must complete the application form that includes a project description and creative space location, and outlines the project and its goals.
Faculty are required to nominate a student for the program through a letter of recommendation; the nominated student will be required to submit an unofficial transcript, resume, and a personal statement as per application instructions.
Applications will be evaluated by a review committee and award notifications will be distributed by the end of September.
Students will be compensated through payroll system and payment will be set at $20 per hour with the potential to earn the maximum award of $4,000 (up to 200 hours) for the Academic Year 2024-2025.
The faculty mentor will consult with the student assistant in determining how the student should allocate the hours dedicated to the project. The faculty mentor will work with the student in tracking hours and approve student timesheets.
Amelia Gould student awardees will be part of the 2024-2025 Academic Year Undergraduate Research programs and required to meet CURE program requirements.

Dyson Summer Research Awards

The Dyson College Dean�鶹��ý�s Office is pleased to announce for Summer 2024 the availability of two programs supporting research and creative expression at both campuses.

Faculty Research Grants

This program will provide funding directly to full-time faculty for research support. The funds may be used for travel expenses related to research; for research supplies and/or equipment; and to pay for a student research assistant. Grant requests may be made up to $1,000 per faculty member. Actual awards will depend upon availability of funds.

Undergraduate Student-Faculty Research Initiatives

This program will provide support for a student to engage in a summer research project with a faculty mentor. The award will provide a $2,000 stipend for the student and $500 in supplies for the faculty mentor.
