Academic Accommodation Request Process

In order to request academic accommodations through Student Accessibility Services (SAS) on the Westchester Campus, you must self-identity to SAS by contacting our office at (914) 773-3201.

Determining accommodations is an interactive process between you (the student), SAS and other relevant parties (as determined by SAS) and reviewing your request may take at least two weeks to process once all materials have been submitted, so please contact our office in a timely manner.

Please utilize the following checklist to guide you through the registration process:

  1. Collect all necessary documentation of your disability (see documentation requirements below). It can be helpful to send the documentation to our office ahead of your intake appointment, but it is not required to initiate the process. If you have any questions about the documentation required, please reach out to us as soon as possible.
  2. Call SAS at (914) 773-3201 to schedule your disability intake appointment. We recommend that you schedule your intake as soon as possible, as even with all required documentation in place, the process can take up to two weeks to arrange your accommodations.
  3. Attend your intake appointment and provide the required documentation. At this intake appointment, you will be asked to complete an online demographic form and then meet with a SAS staff member to provide background information regarding your accommodation request(s) and review how your accommodations are implemented at Pace. At the end of our appointment, you will be provided with a personalized checklist outlining any remaining steps in the process of registration and how to implement your accommodations.
  4. If you have any questions regarding the accommodation request process, please see the contact information below:

Documentation Requirements

If you are requesting academic accommodations such as extended time for exams, note-taking services, etc., you must provide SAS with the documentation for review. Documentation requirements vary depending on the type of disability (i.e. accommodation requests for learning disabilities generally require psycho-educational evaluations that are no more than 5 years old). If you have any questions regarding the required documentation, please contact SAS staff via the contact information listed above. Documentation can be submitted by fax, scan, email, mailed to the office, or by delivering it to the office in person. It is strongly recommended to submit documentation before scheduling an appointment and please note that it may take up to two weeks to review the documentation.

If you do not already have documentation of your disability, you may ask your clinician to complete the Professional Disability Assessment Questionnaire for General Academic Accommodations or the Professional Disability Assessment Questionnaire for Housing Accommodations, found below. Alternatively, the medical provider may submit a letter with the required information.

Updating Accommodations Each Semester

Undergraduate and (non-Law) Graduate students who are registered with SAS must update academic accommodation memos each semester via our online form. We strongly recommends that students submit this form within the first two weeks of the semester. If you have already made a letter request for the semester, please contact our office and provide the new professor and course information and we will amend your memo.

Law students must update their academic accommodations once a year in the spring semester. We also strongly recommend that you submit your form in the beginning of the spring semester, rather than wait until right before final exams.

Housing Accommodation Request Process

General Information

Student Accessibility Services (SAS) encourages timeliness in submitting requests for housing accommodations. It is strongly recommended that students who wish to request housing accommodations, submit their completed request packets according to the following timelines:

  • Incoming Undergraduate and Graduate Students: June 15 priority deadline
  • New Requests for Returning Students & Transfer students: Rolling decision, June 15 priority deadline. Applications are recommended upon submission of housing deposit & application.
  • Summer students: March 30 priority deadline
  • Returning students updating their housing accommodations: March 30 priority deadline

SAS encourages students to apply for housing accommodations as soon as they are able to, and recommends scheduling a screening appointment after submitting their completed request packet.

Determining accommodations is an interactive process between you (the student), SAS and other relevant parties (as determined by SAS) and reviewing your request may take at least 4 to 6 weeks to process once all materials have been submitted. Your request will not be reviewed until the application, personal statement and documentation have been received by the office.

Students requesting a housing accommodation must be eligible to live in university housing, which includes submitting a general housing application and deposit. Please see the Housing Website for complete information regarding general application and deposit deadlines.
