September 9, 2024: Preparing for Fall: AI Guidance and User Groups Kickoff
As artificial intelligence (AI) continues to reshape the landscape of higher education, Pace's University-Wide Artificial Intelligence Committee has been diligently working to ensure that Pace remains at the forefront of these developments. As we begin the fall semester, we understand that many faculty members are seeking guidance on how to address AI in their syllabi. To support you, we are sharing the following resources:
- Draft Academic Policy on AI Use: The committee has prepared , which can serve as a starting point for faculty in developing course policies on AI. This draft is not finalized and will undergo further review by the Faculty Council and Academic Conduct Committees. However, it is being provided now to help guide decisions on AI usage and citation in classes.
- AI Policy Resources: For suggested language, please refer to this , compiled by NYU. For help with citations, the Pace Library offers a . These resources are intended to support you as you consider how AI might be utilized within your courses.
- AI User Groups: Looking ahead, registration is open for AI user groups at Pace at all three campuses. These groups will offer a collaborative space for faculty and staff interested in AI to share knowledge, engage in mutual training, and explore innovative AI applications. We encourage you to .
We hope these resources will be valuable as we begin a new semester. Feedback on the draft AI policy and other AI initiatives is welcome; please send any comments or suggestions to genAI@pace.edu.
We look forward to your participation in these initiatives and your continued support in making Pace a leader in AI education and innovation.
July 16, 2024: Introducing Pace's Committee of Artificial Intelligence
As generative artificial intelligence (AI) gains prominence, its impact on higher education is becoming a crucial topic of interest. In celebration of , we are excited to share our ongoing efforts in this transformative field. The Office of the Provost has formed a dedicated AI Committee to explore the integration of AI into our academic and administrative environments.
The scope of this committee encompasses several key objectives, including supporting AI initiatives across campuses, promoting expanded AI education, developing academic integrity policies, educating students on ethical AI use, identifying administrative use cases, and more.
During the past few weeks, we have been working diligently to address some of our main goals, including:
- Faculty and Staff Surveys: A faculty survey on AI was launched last month, and a staff survey will be conducted in the near future. The results will inform our ongoing efforts.
- Policy Development: We are drafting a policy to be reviewed by the Faculty Council Committees this fall and preparing text for the Faculty Center Syllabus template. In the meantime, you can refer to this , compiled by NYU.
- PaceÂ鶹´«Ã½™s AI Hub: Last month, we launched our website that showcases PaceÂ鶹´«Ã½™s commitment to innovation with AI. We also plan to develop a hub for internal AI resources for the Pace Community. (Many resources and support are currently available on the ITS and sites.)
Looking ahead, we are excited to announce that starting this fall, CIS 101 will include a six-week introduction to AI, providing students with foundational knowledge on this evolving technology. To support the faculty teaching this course, we have developed training sessions that cover this new content, which will be held this summer. More details about this training will be available soon.
Looking forward, we aim to create opportunities for staff, faculty, and students with an interest in AI to engage in AI user groups. These groups will serve as collaborative communities to share knowledge, provide mutual training, open avenues of discovery, and explore innovative applications of AI. More details will follow in the fall.
We are excited about our progress and look forward to your support in making Pace a leader in AI education and innovation.
